Application

An ever-present hazard in work environments such as smelters is the risk of second and third-degree burn injuries resulting from hot metal splashes. Normal industrial clothing does not offer sufficient protection from these extreme conditions while textiles such as cotton drill, have revealed serious shortcomings in their flame resistance. PR97™ from Bruck Group is a world renowned leading fabric when it comes to protection against molten metal splash, flame spread, radiant and convective heat and electric arc. PR97™ is made from natural fibres, which are inherently flame resistant. PR97™ has a natural blend of Merino Wool and Lenzing FR® Viscose fibres providing built in protection that cannot be laundered out. And because PR97™ is made from natural fibres, it breathes and transports moisture away from the skin helping to maximise wearer comfort in all conditions.

Smelter Coat – highly recommended for use in aluminium, iron and steel smelters, electric utilities/maintenance and heavy industry environments, the 500gsm/15.0oz smelter coat acts as an additional protective layer over a PR97™ shirt. The garment is generously sized for wearing over under layers and is constructed using Denim and Orange PR97™.

Smelter Hood – highly recommended for use in aluminium, iron and steel smelters, electric utilities/maintenance and heavy industry environments, the 320gsm/9.3oz smelter hood provides additional protection in extreme environments where there is risk of injury from intense heat, flame and molten metal splash. The garment provides an additional layer of protection around the head, neck and across the shoulders.

  • Flame Spread (EN 532:1992), Radiant Heat (EN 366:1993 [20kw/m2]), Convective Heat (EN 367:1992), Molten Aluminium (EN 373:1993), Molten Iron (EN 373:1993) and Electric Arc (ASTM F1959-99, NFPA 70E HRC 1 and 2* [*with cotton undergarments]).

  • Smelter Coat – crew neck with stud front and Velcro secured overlap and Velcro sleeve tab closures. Garment top (upper chest front and back) and sleeves (above elbow front and back) Orange 500gsm/15.0oz Twill Weave. Remainder of garment Denim 500gsm/15.0oz Twill Weave (PR97™ 500gsm/15.0oz 56% FR Viscose, 24% Wool, 20% Cotton).

  • Smelter Hood – Orange 320gsm/9.3oz Twill Weave as one piece garment.

  • HI VIS ORANGE AS/NZS 4602.1:2011 compliant for daytime high visibility use.

  • Smelter Coat Options

    • Embroidery of corporate logo/name/personnel identification. Camera-ready artwork is necessary for price quotes. 

    • 3M™ Scotchlite™ 8935 (11.9 cal/cm2) 50mm (2”) FR silver reflective tape affixed compliant with AS/NZS 1906.4:2010 (offers good abrasion and chemical resistance; meets standards AS/NZS 4967 [structural firefighting] and AS/NZS 4824 [wildland firefighting]).
